Kokopelli
is often depicted as a humpbacked flute player in ancient petroglyphs and
pottery found throughout the American Southwest and Mexico. He has been
worshipped since the time of the Ancient Pueblo Peoples. He was an important
fertility deity for crops and childbirth. He carried a pack of seeds, songs,
and rainbows on his back as he traveled the ancient Southwest. Kokopelli's
flute playing chased away the Winter and brought in the Spring. The music
warmed and prepared the Earth to receive the seeds to be planted. His flute
playing also announced his friendly intentions as a trader and helped him
to romance the local maidens. In more recent times, he's become a "rock
star" due to his presence in many ancient rock carvings. Some people claim
to have encountered Kokopelli wandering on moonlit nights. His flute may
still be heard by those who are willing to listen. May the spirit of Kokopelli
bring you wonder and joy during your stay at the "House of the Dancing Sun"
(La Casa del Sol Bilando), a Sedona vacation rental home.
